GMC Bulldogs Fall Short in The Graphics Edge Bowl

GMC Bulldogs Fall Short in The Graphics Edge Bowl

The Georgia Military College Bulldogs and the Iowa Western Community College Reivers suited up for one last game on the season to face off in the Graphic Edge Bowl in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Iowa Western came out and scored a touchdown on their very first possession of the game on a 15 yard pass after driving down the field with little resistance. The score came with 11:22 left in the first quarter and gave them the early momentum that they were looking for.

The Bulldogs opening drive wasn't quite as successful as they went three and out and punted it back to the Reivers. The Reivers capitalized after converting on a 4th and 1 eventually kicking a field goal to extend their lead to two scores at 10-0 with 3:04 left in the 1st quarter.

After six consecutive 3 and out collectively between both teams, the Reivers looked to have another but converted the first down on a penalty by the Bulldogs to keep their drive alive. They later converted on a 3rd and 16 and ended up kicking a field goal to make it 13-0 with 1:29 left in the 2nd quarter.

GMC ended out the half with another 3 and out. They were still without a first down in the game and accumulated a total on -8 offensive yards in the first half.

The 3rd quarter opened up with another Bulldog 3 and out. On the following possession they did force a fumble which they recovered, but on the very first play of their drive they fumbled and gave it right back to the Reivers. They drove down the field to score another touchdown putting the score at 20-0.

The Bulldogs offense just couldn't get it going as they had another 3 and out and a total of -14 offensive yards in the game.

The next Iowa Western drive they had a huge 48 yard play only to be erased by a hold which led to an eventual punt. The Reiver defense got the ball back for them though as the quickly intercepted the ball only to watch the offense not get a first down and punt once again.

With 4:59 left in the 3rd quarter, the Bulldogs finally got their first 1st down of the game. The success was only short lived as they couldn't convert on another and muffed the punt on 4th down to turn the ball over on downs.

Iowa Western's next drive had another big play erased by a penalty, this time a hold, and led to a Bulldog interception in an effort to get back in the game, but the offenses struggles continued and were held to another 3 and out. After two more 3 and out outs, the Bulldogs intercepted the ball once again trying to keep within striking distance early in the 4th quarter.

The offense converted on a 4th and 4 drawing the defense off sides, but couldn't continue the drive and ended up punting the ball again.

The Bulldogs still showed some life as with 2:03 left in the game they blocked a field goal attempt that Marquise Motley scooped up and ran for a touchdown to put it at 20-6 after a failed 2 point conversion.

GMC attempted an onside kick but could not recover and the Iowa Western Community College Reivers ran the clock out to become your winners of the 2015 Graphic Edge Bowl 20-6.

Bulldogs finish the year with an 8-4 record with a very young team.  There is no rest for the weary as the GMC Football staff will be on the road this week recruiting to build into next years' team.  Stay tuned as we move into the spring as we will post information for the Spring 2016 game and as we prepare for the 2016 campaign.
