Men's Golf Finishes 5th at Piedmont Fall Invitational

The Georgia Military College golf team opened their 2017-18 season this weekend by making a trip up to north Georgia to participate in the 2017 Piedmont Fall Invitational at The Orchard Golf Club in Clarkesville, Georgia. An opening round 325 led by Sophomore Niklas Frimodig's 78 put the Bulldogs in 6th after round 1 on a day where low scores were few and far between, as there were only 2 scores below par. The Bulldogs improved on day 2 by posting a 2nd round 317 and moved up to 5th in a field of 11 teams and finished ahead of both of their conference opponents. Sophomore Tanner Casey finished T16 individually in a field of 80 players with scores of 79-76.

"The course definitely showed its teeth during the first round," Head Coach Josh Miller stated. "The greens were very firm and fast and if you found yourself on the wrong side of the hole, you were going to struggle with getting the ball in the hole." While the Dogs struggled in the first round, the improved scores during round 2 were a welcomed sight. "The course played a little easier during round 2 and we hit the ball really well, but we still made some mistakes around the greens that we are going to be working hard in practice on over the next week to fix. The Fall is a time to learn and grow as a team and this first tournament was a learning experience. I'm happy with the fight our guys showed to turn in an improved score in round 2. There were only a couple of rounds last year where our scores improved from round 1 to round 2, so this is something we are looking to continue going forward."

The Bulldogs will be on the road again next weekend as they travel to Grand Bear Golf Course in Saucier, Mississippi to compete in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Fall Invitational.
