2016 GMC Men's Soccer - Best Season, so far....

GMC Men's Soccer had a history-making 2016 season!  By winning the Region 17 Conference Title for the first time in the program's history the team qualified for the NJCAA South East District Tournament in Daytona Beach, Florida - another program first!  Despite a loss in the District semi-final, the squad ended the campaign with an impressive 12-5 record.

The successful season was largely due to a strong core of sophomores:  Jack Arra (15 goals and 15 assists in 16 games), Taku Mashingaidze (team captain, 9 goals and 15 assists), Rahman Zekiri (organized the defense and led by example), and Chris Velez (played in every game and made significant contributions in each, including three vital goals).  Additionally, several freshmen had outstanding first seasons for GMC:  Ricky Ortiz started every game in goal and had 6 shutouts, Noa Pagatpatan and Ismael Siby were impressive in defense, Luke Deacy and Matheus Brandao provided creativity in midfield, and Matt Shamoun was a constant threat in attack.

Head Coach Dave Sexton was impressed with the team's spirit:  "This group really came together well and were prepared to work hard for each other - they deserve all the credit for a very good season1"
