GMC Bulldog Softball keeps things rolling with a 4-0 week

The GMC Softball Bulldogs were 4-0 last week with sweeps over USC Salkehatchie on Tuesday and Thomas University JV on Thursday. The team is 30-9 (9-4 in conference) and ranked #18 nationally.

Game 1 vs. USC Salkehatchie

GMC scored early and often in game 1. The Dogs scored 1 in the 1st, 2 in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd, and 7 in the 4th to take a 5 inning game 12-1. Madason Messer allowed only 4 hits and 1 run in the win. Katy Stamey led the way from the leadoff spot going 4-4 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored. Natalie Johnson and Taylor Krause collected 2 hits each. Danielle Downs had only one hit but it collected 4 RBI as it was a grand slam homerun in the 5th inning. Eight of the 9 starters had hits in the game.

Game 2 vs. USC Salkehatchie

Danielle Downs got the start in game 2 and the results were much the same. Allowing only 5 hits and 1 run, she took the win as the offense continued to put up runs. Again, the game only went 5 innings as GMC scored 2 in the 2nd, 5 in the 3rd, and 2 in the 5th to take the game 9-1. Jordan Crews went 4-4 in the game with Stamey, Ansley Wilbanks, Downs, Johnson, and Mamie Crawford all collecting multiple hits in the game. In total the dogs had 17 hits in the 5 inning game. Final Score GMC 9 – Salk 1

Game 1 vs Thomas U. JV

Mallory Parson got the game 1 start for the Dogs and pitched a 5 hit shutout to get her 5th win of the season. The shutout was important as the Bulldogs could only muster 1 run to take the game 1-0. The only run of the game came on a 2 out double by Brittany Lowe. Natalie Johnson was the only Dog with multiple hits.

Game 2 vs Thomas U. JV

The Bulldogs won another 5 inning game in game 2 with a 12-0 victory. Scoring 3 in the 1st, 3 in the 2nd, & 6 in the 3rd was all that it would take to get Danielle Downs her 13th win of the year. She allowed only 2 base runners in the game. In a game where the benches on both sides were emptied, GMC made the most of it with 3 people coming off the bench to get hits. Courtney Neild had a 2 RBI single, McKenzie Krause had a single, and Jenni McDaniel used her speed to grab a bunt single and a stolen base. The number 1,2, & 3 spots in the order scored 9 of the 12 runs.

The Bulldogs will be on the road this week with games on Tuesday, March 27th when they take on Georgia Highlands and then back home on Saturday, April 1st when they take on South Georgia State College here at Couch Field.
