Lady Bulldogs prepare for Conference Championships with strong race in Augusta

The GMC Women's Cross Country team ran at the Jaguar Invitational hosted by Augusta University on Friday 14 October 2016.  It was a beautiful evening on a great course on the Episcopal Day School's Flowing Wells Campus.

The GMC Women ran in a race that included NCAA Division II schools Augusta University, Newberry University, Fort Valley State University, USA-Aiken and Paine College.  There was also a very strong NAIA school Columbia College in attendance.  The women ran their best race of the season and finished in 6th place, only 12 points behind USA-Aiken.  The women's team was led by Freshman Destinee Hernandez (Merrit Island, FL) who ran a personal best of 23:08 and finished in 23rd place.  Fellow Freshman Haley Valentine (Platt City, Mo) was runner-up for the team and finished in 30th with a time of 23:50.  Both ladies qualified to represent GMC at the NJCAA Division III National Championships.  Other scoring runners were Jessica Hurtado (Grovetown, GA) 35th, Sarah Conners (LaGrange, GA) 36th, and Talisa Soto (Gainesville, GA) 38th
 

The women's team will run at the GCAA Conference Championships this Friday afternoon.  The  women's 5k race at 5:30pm.  The race will be held at the Children's Industrial Home on Mumford Rd in Macon.
