GMC GOLF TAKES AIM AT THE BIG BOYS

The Men's Golf team was in action this week as they traveled to the NAIA Fall Championship. As the only Junior College in the field against all four-year NAIA Schools, the Bulldogs delivered a solid performance, placing 11th of 15 teams.

The rain-soaked Barnsley Gardens Resort challenged the Bulldogs at every turn. The rained out practice round didn't help either as the wet, tricky greens were tough to get a read on. Coach Van Horn commented, "The ball would break one way with the grain and the opposite way against the grain; it was bizarre." Even with the challenge, the Bulldogs posted some excellent scores. Austin Quillian led them and opened the tournament with a 76, just seven shots off the lead, then carded 77, 76 to finish T26.  Peter Thayer posted 80, 78, 77 to take solo 35th and Noah Hankins 78-80-78 for T36.  Austin Mills (73rd, 269), and Ethan Comer (T76, 278) rounded out the scoring. Coach Van Horn was pleased with the event and his team's performance; he commented,  "We did some really good things, and I am optimistic for the spring. When you go up against four-year schools, we know what we are in for; we need to tighten up putting as a team."

This event ends the fall season. They will now go into prep mode for the spring as they get ready to defend their National Championship from a year ago.
