GMC Men's Golf Wins Spring 2021 Cougar Classic

The GMC Men's Golf team earned their first win of the season, posting a 603 to win the Spring 2021 Cougar Classic by 12 strokes over NCAA foe Averett University. Noah Hankins was the low round for the Bulldogs shooting a 74-75-149 to finish T-2. All 5 of the Bulldogs starters finished in the Top 6 in a dominating performance.

Quail Ridge Golf Course, located in Sanford, NC., was no match for the GMC Bulldogs as they fired 10 of 16 rounds in the '70s led by Freshman Noah Hankins 74-75-149. The team raced out to 4 stroke advantage after day one thanks to Hankins, sophomore Austin Quillian (76) and freshman Lurner Benton (76), and Peter Thayer (77), and they did not look back. Dylan Humphries shot the low round of the tournament on Day 2, carding a 72 and helping the Bulldogs extend their lead. Noah Hankins 2nd, Peter Thayer – T4 (77-75-152), Dylan Humphries - T4 (80-72-152), Austin Quillian - T6 (76-78-154), and Lurner Benton - T6 (76-78-154).

The Bulldogs had three individuals play in the event as well. The Bulldogs, led by Mason Cain who shot a 77-88-165 and finished tied for 19th. Austin Mills T20 and Tyler Harris 26th rounded out the Bulldogs scoring.
Coach Chuck Van Horn commented, "The boys played well, we have a deep team this year, and it was a great way to start the season."

The team is back in action March 8-9 as they travel to Carterville. IL to compete in the John A. Logan Invitational at Kokopelli Golf Club.
