GMC JC Men’s Golf Takes 2nd at John A Logan Spring Invitational.

The GMC Junior College Men's Golf team traveled to Marion, Illinois, to compete in the John A. Logan College Invitation at Kokopelli Golf Club. The Bulldogs battled through the cold and windy Illinois weather conditions and took second place in 10 team field that included four junior colleges and six four-year colleges.

Golf Magazine refers to Kokopelli Golf Club as one of "America's Best Places You Can Play," but this 7100 yard, par 71 monster with lightning fast greens was one of the most challenging courses the Bulldogs have encountered. However, they were up to the challenge posting the tournaments lowest team score of day on the final day.

The Bulldogs were led by Austin Quillian who tied for 12th posting 77-74-77. Peter Thayer shot an even par 71 on the final day, the third lowest round of the event, to come in 14th place 80-82-71. Dylan Humphries 87-78-79, Lurner Benton 83-82-76, and Noah Hankins 79-82-83 rounded out the Bulldog scoring.

Coach Chuck Van Horn III, commented "I feel this was a great accomplishment for the team; they came in second place behind John. A. Logan College; who had the home-course advantage. I feel that we have grown more as a team and have gained the knowledge to know what it takes to win tournaments."

The Bulldogs tee off again March 15-16 in the 2021 Golden Tigers Spring Invitational at Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville, Georgia
