GMC Names Gary Guyer New Head Coach for Men’s and Women’s Golf

Georgia Military College Athletic Director Rob Manchester names Gary Guyer as the new Head Coach for Men's and Women's Golf.

"We are excited to hand over the reins of our Men's and Women's Golf programs to Coach Guyer. His passion for the game and proven, coaching experience made him a perfect fit to lead our student athlete golfers into the future," Manchester commented.

Coach Guyer brings a wealth of coaching experience, including nine years as the Head Coach of Women's Golf at Mercer University. He led the Bears to ten tournament wins and one NCAA Championship appearance. Under Guyer, the Bears achieved success never seen before as they were yearly contenders in the competitive Atlantic Sun Conference. In addition to his role at Mercer, Guyer has also served as the Director of the Georgia Golf Ministry. He co-founded D1 Golf, a program created to educate, equip, and inspire America's teaching professionals, golf coaches, and student-athletes. He also served as the Executive Director of Girls Golf Georgia. Guyer is a Level II PGA apprentice and is working towards his PGA certification.

Coach Guyer commented on his new position, "This is an amazing opportunity for me to get back into collegiate coaching and be a part of a program that will compete for a National Championship. Everyone wants to play D1, but if you don't get that opportunity, we will help you get there. Our program will prepare our student-athletes in the same traditions as the D1 programs so that when they graduate, they will be more than ready to compete at the top-level programs."

Guyer attended the University of Georgia and graduated from the Terry College of Business. Until 1997, Guyer worked as an Investment Banker in the securities industry. He is married to the former Barbara Basinger of Athens. The couple has two daughters, Lane and Allison, and two sons, Lath and Rhett
