MILLEDGEVILLE, GA –

The Georgia Military College Men's Golf Team traveled to Wagram, NC, and competed in the Deercroft Spring Invite hosted by St. Andrews University. Nick Johnson fired a tournament-low 65 in the second round to lead the Bulldogs to a 4th place finish in a field of primarily four-year college teams.

We have become accustomed to our men's golf team doing amazing things, and the Bulldogs' performance at this year's Deercroft Spring Invite certainly rises to that level. In round 1 of the tournament, Brad Hammock got the team going and grabbed his first Hole in One for the season. He shot a 75 and was in 5th place at the end of the day. Nick Johnson (80), Stephen Bishop (80), and Braeden McDaniel (82) rounded out the Bulldogs scoring for a respectable 317 and 7th place heading into Round 2.

Round 2 brought more excitement for the Bulldogs; always steady  Hammock posted a 76 with two birdies and captured another top 10 this season, finishing 7th overall. Austin Mills recovered from a tough opening round to post an 82. The magic started when Braeden McDaniel shot the lowest round of his career, a 77 that included five birdies. Johnson also had a career day shooting a 65, the second-lowest round in GMC history and his lowest in competition. He started the day birdieing four of his first five holes. After eagling his 14th hole, Johnson was at - 9, leading the tournament. He picked up two bogeys coming in that dropped him to -7 and one shot from capturing the victory. Johnson ended the day with seven birdies and one eagle. His nine birdies over two days were the most of any player, and he also shared the top spot in the event for eagles with his teammate Brad Hammock.

The Deercroft Spring Invite featured twelve teams, ten of which are four-year schools that compete in the NCAA or NAIA; amongst the stacked field, the Bulldogs had some impressive numbers. The Bulldogs combined for 28 birdies, the most of any team at the event. Their 300-team score in round 2 was the second lowest at the event, and their two eagles were the most of any team. A strong finish is what the Bulldogs needed as they prepare for the GCAA Championship in April and the NJCAA National Championship in June.

The Bulldogs' next competition will be at the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Championship on April 17 at River Forrest County Club.
