The Georgia Military College Men's Golf Team hosted the 2023 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association Championship (GCAA) on April 17 at River Forest Country Club in Forsyth, GA.  Sophomore Brad Hammock captured the GCAA Individual Championship with scores of

76-75=151.  In addition to Hammock, Nick Johnson finished 2nd while helping the team to their first outright GCAA Team Championship.

Nick Johnson opened the tournament with a 74 to set the pace for the Bulldogs. He carded three birdies, avoided big mistakes and played a solid round of golf.  Hammock shot a 76 in his first round as he too had a solid first round and only trailed his teammate Johnson by 2 strokes after day one. In the team competition, Walter Kelley shot an 81 and Stephen Bishop shot an 82 to give the Bulldogs a five-shot lead over Andrew College.

Round two saw Hammock and Johnson battle it out throughout the final day of competition. Hammock finished his second round by shooting a 75 and Johnson shot a 74. Both finished at 151 for the tournament and tied for the lead which resulted in a playoff to determine the individual conference champion.  During the playoff at the 18th hole, the drama unfolded as Hammock and Johnson went stroke for stroke.  Johnson had a chance to sink a thirty-foot birdie putt for the win unfortunately three putted.  Hammock got in trouble by hitting his second shot into the bunker.  He was able to get his third shot onto the green and found himself with a twenty-foot putt to save par and the win.  He then aligned and struck hit put perfectly to sink his twenty-foot putt for the win and his first GCAA Individual Championship.

In the team competition, Austin Mills (78) and Walter Kelley (80) were the counting scores in round two and that helped secure the team victory for the Bulldogs as they finished with 623 10 shots better than Andrew College.

Excited about the team's success, Coach Kayden commented, "It's great to win, and will give us a lot of momentum going into the National Championship."

The Bulldogs will begin the eight-week preparation for the National Championships. They have won two National Championships in the last five years and have not finished outside the top three.
