GMC Men's start the season at MGA Invitational

The GMC Junior College Cross Country team started the 2019 season this past Saturday with a short drive to Macon to participate in the Middle Georgia State University Invitational.  With a tremendous amount of turnover from last year's team.  This was a little bit of an unknown as to what to expect.  Coach Rob Sherwood commented "The change in runners due to graduation, a large influx of runners from around the country to the team, and the extreme heat recently meant that there were lots of questions going into the race.  These men and women did a great job."

The men's team finished in 4th place out of 6 complete teams.  They were led by Freshman Bryce Samples who finished in 7th place with a 32:20 in his first competitive 8k.  Brett Darling finished in 16th, followed closely by Sean Verner in 18th.  Other scoring runners for the men's team were Jacob Wagner and Gianni Corbo.  One other runner Jose Luis Gonzalez was in the top 20, but was directed to do another 3k loop, but still managed to finish in 38th place despite running 3 additional kilometers.

Full results of the race are found here.

Both teams will be competing in the GMC Brickyard Invitational at Council Farms this Friday evening starting at 6pm.  Council Farms in located on the corner of Council-McCranie Rd and GA-112 just south of the Fall-Line Freeway.
