GMC Softball Pick Up Two Wins on the Road

The GMC softball team was on the road for their matchup against Chattahoochee Valley Community College coming off their 1-1 split versus Piedmont College.

The Bulldogs came out hot scoring a quick three runs on a RBI single, sacrifice fly, and a walk in run in the top of the 1st to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Chattahoochee responded with a run of their own but was still down 3-1.

The GMC offense stayed hot tacking on another 2 runs to put the score at 5-1 but Chattahoochee responded with two runs of their own to stay within 2.

The Bulldogs scored 3 more runs over the next 2 innings extending the lead to 8-3 but Chattahoochee kept battling to stay in the game scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning including a solo home run and a score on an error by the center fielder.

After that inning it was all GMC the rest of the way. In the top of the 5th Kiley Rediger hit a 3 run home run to put the score at 11-5 and in the top of the 6th Danielle Downs and Sara Alderman both hit 2 run home runs to put the game away and end it with a final score 15-5 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Game 2 started a lot how game 1 ended. Taylor little started the game with a leadoff home run to jump out to a 1-0 lead right away. Ansley Wilbanks later scored on a play where her teammate got caught trying to steal a base and put the Bulldogs lead at 2-0.

Chattahoochee tied the game up at 2-2 in the bottom of the 1st after a walk in run and a RBI single.

In the top of the 3rd, Danielle Downs drove in Taylor Little on an RBI double to put the Bulldogs back in the lead at 3-2. Chattahoochee responded quickly with a run of their own after an error to tie it back up.

Not much action until the bottom of the 5th where Chattahoochee took the lead on a solo home run at 4-3. The Bulldogs came back in the next own with 2 runs of their own to reclaim the lead making it 5-4.

In the top in the 7th, the Bulldogs added 3 more runs to their total including a 2 RBI double by Danielle Downs to put the game away at 8-4.

"Our offense set the table for us early in the first game and continued to follow suit through the two games," said head coach Ashley Bunn. "Sara Alderman, Danielle Downs, and Kiley Rediger all hit their 1st collegiate home runs today."

Next up for the Bulldogs will be a home game against Darton College on Tuesday, February 9th with the first pitch of the double header scheduled for 3pm.
