GMC Women place third at their first ever home cross country meet

History was made on Friday the 13th of September as GMC hosted its first college cross country meet ever, The GMC Brickyard Invitational at Council Farms in the southern reaches of Baldwin County, GA.  The name, Brickyard Invitational, harkens back to the time when an old brickworks stood partially on the GMC property.  A decision was made by the athletic department to pay homage to the historical relevant structure by having the name and trophy tie back to the old brickyard.

The women started things off and SCAD showed their team strength with an astonishing 21:07 team average to take the top spot in the race.  GMC was led by Freshman Abigail Gash who placed 7th overall and qualified for the NJCAA Division III National Championships in Westfield, MA on 2 November.  "Abigail had set her sights on the National Championships, and she has worked really hard, despite the intense heat early in the season" stated Coach Rob Sherwood.  Treeaunna Whiting (14th) Shundrenna Harris (22nd), Delaney Gilbert (25th) and Giselle Reyes-Zavalza (27th) were scoring runners for the team who finished in 3rd place behind SCAD and Middle Georgia State University.

The women's teams will run Friday 20 September at the Wingfoot Invitational hosted by the Atlanta Track Club in Cartersville, GA.
