A BIG Weekend for GMC Athletics-Military Appreciation Day

A BIG Weekend for GMC Athletics-Military Appreciation Day

This Saturday is shaping up to being a very exciting afternoon here on the GMC Campus.  There will be two GMC JC Athletic events that will be going on at the same time on campus.  Your NJCAA #16 ranked GMC JC Football team will take the field against NJCAA #11 ranked DuPage College in what is going to be a very exciting game.  DuPage College is coming off an open week which saw them climb the national rankings by 5 spots.  The Bulldogs are working on a short preparation week as they arrived home early on Monday fresh off an exciting double overtime win over ASA NY 39-38.  The Bulldogs climbed two spots in the NJCAA National Ranking by virtue of last Sunday's victory.  This will be a special day as it will be an opportunity to recognize and honor those that are or have served our country, as it is Military Appreciation Day.  There will be several large groups attending with various presentation and recognitions going on.  Some of our guests will include, 70 from Youth Challenge of Milledgeville, 15 from the local Veteran's Home , 150 of our own Cadet Corp, 45 from the GMC Prep band, 45 from the local chapter of MOAA (Military Officers Association of America), 8 from the Lake Oconee Veteran's Association and 13 from Mr. Gus Pursley family as we recognize him as the oldest GMC graduate here in Baldwin County at 94 years old. Gus is a WWII veteran that fought in the Pacific.  Come out for the 1pm kickoff with the pregame ceremony starting at 12:30pm.  The game can be seen in its entirety online through Jock Jive Sports at www.jockjive.com.

As in prior home football games, for those that want to purchase tickets ahead of time and not stand in the main ticketing line can go online to the following link and purchase game tickets:

Pass this on to friends and family that may be coming into town for the game.  We are streamlining our ticketing process and this does help cut down the line going into the ticketing booth.  For those that purchase online, they can go through the right side gate under the VIP tent.

Also on Saturday the GMC JC Men's Soccer team will be going head to head with NJCAA #6 ranked Daytona State College.  The NJCAA #25 ranked Bulldogs will be looking to exact some revenge as they lost on the road earlier in the season to Dayton State College in a hard fought match, 2-0.  The Bulldogs are currently on a 3 game win streak which as seen them outscore their opponents 24-2 during the win streak.  The defending GCAA Conference Champions are working their way through the season with conference play right around the corner. "We are excited about Daytona State College coming to town this weekend.  We understand the task in front of us will be challenging but the guys are ready for it.  We have had a good week of practice and are fresh and ready to compete", stated Head Coach Dave Sexton.  The match will kick off at 12 noon at the GMC Soccer Complex.  Come on out to support the Bulldogs as they continue their journey towards another conference championship and National Championship Tournament berth.

On Friday  of this week, the GMC JC Women's Soccer team will be on the road to conference foe, South Georgia.  This will be the second match against them this year with the Lady Bulldogs beating them the first time, 10-0.  Currently the GMC Women's team sits in 2nd place in the GCAA Conference standings with a 3-1 record.  At 5-2 overall, the program is off to its best start of the season.  The team has won 4 of its last 5 games with the only loss coming to conference 1st team, Gordon State College.  "In spite of our early success against them in our first match, I am challenging our team to not take them lightly.  The goal is to improve each day, stay within our process and push towards our larger goal of a GCAA Conference Championship", stated Head Coach, Courtney Morgan.

On the road for this upcoming weekend is the GMC Men's and Women's Cross Country team as they head to Columbus State COUGAR Classic that is scheduled for a 8am start time.  The race will include both the Men's and Women's Cross Country teams for GMC.  The team is off to a good start this fall season as they have competed well against larger schools and their teams.  Some of the runners on the Men's and Women's team have already qualified for the National Championship in November.  Stay tuned as we will have a report on results on Monday of next week.  Go BULLDOGS!
