Cross Country Signs Six

MILLEDGEVILLE, GA –

Coach Rob Sherwood is excited to welcome six new runners to his team. When asked about the results of his recruiting efforts, he commented, "I think this is possibly the strongest class as a whole that we have had."

These six runners come with a host of accomplishments at the high school level. Below is a short introduction for each new Bulldog.

Nicquelette Fazekes – Dixon HS (IL). Nicquelette led her team and posted multiple sub-20 minute 3-mile races.  Coach Sherwood on Nicquelette – "She is someone we look to be the top runner for us. She will not only encourage the team to be better but could push for individual honors."

Stephanie Trejo – Mariner HS (FL) Stephanie is a multi-sport athlete with a real talent for running. Coach Sherwood on Stephanie…  "Her tenacity and desire to improve should help her fit in well with the team.  She has the talent to be in our top 7 and help make us a legitimate repeat conference champion favorite."

Paige White –Telfair County HS (GA). Paige was one of the best Single-A Runners in the state and will be welcomed addition to the Bulldog Team. Coach Sherwood on Paige… "She is fast and will be one of our top runners."

Bohanon Meadors –Plymouth HS (IN).  Bohanon is a keen runner with high background in Cross Country and Track. His athleticism will help him transition well to the men's 8k distance.  Coach Sherwood on Bohanon…. "He is a strong athlete with a great experience. We will look to him to break our top 5. "

Heath McDonald –North Oconee HS (GA), Heath has a strong background in running and triathlons. He is a licensed pilot.  Coach Sherwood on Heath…" Heath is a great runner. His passion for running and competition make him an excellent addition to our team."

Jacob Cain – Brandon HS (FL) Jacob is another multi-sport athlete who loves to work and improve. Coach Sherwood on Jacob… "His passion for the competition will be infectious.  He has what it takes to be a factor on our team competing for a Conference Championship."

Coach Sherwood is getting the job done recruiting this year and has brought in several athletes that can help make a statement at Nationals. Coach Sherwood added, "This season our goal is to qualify two teams for the National Championship, and with these athletes along with our returners bring that goal just a little closer."

GMC Cross Country has established a solid foundation. We have regularly qualified both men and women as individuals for the National Championships, twice our women's team has finished in the top 10. These six athletes, along with our returners and another 10-12 runners we are still working on will put the GMC Cross Country program in a position to do things they never have.  Coach Sherwood closed his comments with, "I would love to see us have both men's and women's team finish in the top 10 at Nationals."

The Cross Country team's schedule will be released later this summer on our website www.gmcbulldogs.com.
