In their fall finale, the GMC Bulldogs took down Georgia Knights Prep to send retiring Head Coach Bert Williams out on a high note. In what was an emotional day for the Bulldogs, the defense came to play, shutting down the Bulldogs offense and scoring the only TD of the game on a pick-six by Rod Gattison. The offense accumulated yardage in chunks and had chances to score, but the Knights defense kept finding ways to hold them short of the end zone.

The Bulldogs offense saw Joe Singletary and Donovan Anthony step up at quarterback to make some big plays; they each have a good field vision and made some nice throws. Coach Robinson rolled several different wideouts through the lineup, with many of them making plays when needed. Colby Cruz and Malik Mullins made some spectacular catches to keep drives alive and get the Bulldogs in scoring position. TE Kory Graham also had two nice catches to add to the air attack. The ground game rested mostly on the shoulders of Tyler Jordan, who will no doubt be a vital piece of the puzzle come spring. Reginal Ellis and Thad Webb proved that they could contribute by giving the Bulldogs many options on the ground.

The defense posted their second shutout and once again dominated on all counts. Rod Gattison grabbed his third Int of the fall and returned it 88 yards for the only TD of the game. Ja'Maric Morris' INT and 90-yard return for a TD was called back, which negated another score by our defense. Upfront Byron Young and Reginald Pearson camped out in the backfield, making it hard for the Knights to get anything going. The defense preserved the shut out late in the second half with a goal-line stand and fumble recovery in the end zone,

But in the end, this was Coach Williams' day. After 20 years at the helm, going out with a win seemed fitting for a man that created not only a successful football program but a successful athletic department. Coach Williams' leadership helped raise millions of dollars, added eight more athletic programs, and the construction/renovation of multiple facilities. Lastly, and perhaps most important to him, he has delivered his primary mission to help kids. Under his leadership, over 430 football student-athletes moved on to four-year schools, with 298 earning NCAA D1 scholarships and 37 making it to the NFL.

Williams' tireless work ethic and commitment to excellence have set GMC Athletics up for success for many years to come. Thank you, Coach Williams.
