Georgia Military College Bulldogs softball team proved to be too powerful for the Brewton Parker Barons in their 2021 season home opener on Wednesday night. The Bulldogs combined for 19 runs on 19 hits, while the pitching staff totaled 24 strikeouts.

GMC jumped to an early lead in the first game of the doubleheader and would not look back, scoring three runs in the first inning, four in the fifth, and three in the sixth. The Bulldogs were carried at the plate by freshman third baseman Mackenzie Kilpatrick, who went two for four with three runs scored and five RBI's. She ended the game with a walk-off three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to give the Bulldogs a nine-run lead. Freshman pitcher Jana Shellhorse was dominant on the mound and carried a perfect game going into the fifth inning before allowing her first two hits. Shellhorse racked up eleven strikeouts on the day.

Game two started much like game one, with the Bulldogs scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the lead and never let go. GMC scored two additional runs in the third and sixth innings, while the fourth inning had the Bulldogs crossing the plate for three runs. Freshman second baseman Makensey Sapp went three for four at the plate, scoring one run. Kilpatrick was a force at the plate, adding two more hits and scoring three runs. Freshman catcher Macy Poisal went two for four with a line-drive double over the centerfielder's head and two RBI's. Sophomore Beth Eddins got the start and the win, giving her four on the season. Eddins accumulated six strikeouts in four innings while allowing no runs on two hits. Freshman pitcher Layla Barron came in to finish the game, throwing the last three innings. Barron allowed two runs, one earned on two hits. She struck out seven of the fifteen batters she faced.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday, February 24th, at Spartanburg Methodist College. Game times are at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
