GMC JC Softball GMC Splits Conference Doubleheader with Georgia Highlands College

On Thursday, March 18th, Georgia Military College hosted Georgia Highlands College in a conference doubleheader at Couch Field. The Bulldogs dropped a close one in the series-opening game, losing 6-5 before bouncing back and running away with game two in a 10-2 five-inning run rule. The Bulldogs led at the plate by sophomore Jessica Owens, who was perfect on the day, going 2-2 with a three-run homer, four walks, one hit by a pitch, and four RBI's.

Game one consisted of missed opportunities for the Bulldogs and the complete opposite for the Chargers, who scored all six of their runs around the Bulldogs' missed plays. Georgia Highlands scored two runs in the first inning of a home run by Charger catcher Izzy Marcotte. The Bulldogs cut the score in half in the bottom of the second inning when pinch hitter Beth Eddins drew a bases-loaded walk. Marcotte extended the Chargers lead in the top of the third with her second homer of the day, making it 4-1; they scored their final two runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Bulldogs scored their last four runs of the game, with a single run in the bottom of the sixth and three in the bottom of the seventh, when Jessica Owens hit a three-run homer but fell short of the comeback losing 6-5.

Georgia Highlands College started the scoring in game two with one run in the first inning. The Bulldogs eventually gained the lead in the bottom of the second and did not look back, scoring six runs in the second, three in the third, and the final run in the fourth for the run rule. Eight different Bulldogs got a hit in the game; Makensey Sapp, Mackenzie Kilpatrick, and Caroline Hughes each had two RBI's. Whitley Ward, Jessica Owens, and Mckenzie Graves added one each. Beth Eddins picked up her seventh win of the season, going five innings. She allowed two runs on five hits while striking out two batters.

The Bulldogs are back in action on Thursday, March 25th, when they travel to Barnesville, Georgia, to face Gordon State College at 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm.
