GMC Cross Country Races to Strong Finish at Middle Georgia State University Invitational

The GMC JC Cross Country teams began a historic season this past Saturday, 4 September 2021, at the Middle Georgia State University Invitational in Macon, GA. The teams found themselves a little short-handed due to the long Labor Day weekend, a few nagging injuries but started the season in strong fashion.

The men's 8k race started with many newcomers for GMC, but it was Daniel Turnipseed (SO, Blythwood, SC), one of the team captains and fastest runner for the team at the NJCAA National Championship last season, who led the way for the Bulldogs. He finished in 15th place and led the team to a solid 4th place showing. Other scoring runners for GMC were Jacob Reed (FR, Thompson, CT), Jacob Cain (SO, Brandon, FL), Christopher Pombo (FR, Brewster, MA), and Brandon Williams (FR, Dexter, GA). The men's fourth-place finish as a team is the highest place they have placed as a team in this race.

The women's 5k saw GMC only run four runners, and one Jordan Printer (FR, Citrus Springs, FL) could not finish the race due to an injury. Paige White (SO, McRae, GA), a 2020 NJCAA DIII 2nd Team All-American led the team and finished the race in 19th place; other runners were Ashley Sanders (SO, Cape Coral, FL) and Miah Lee (FR, Dalton, GA).

Both teams will compete at the 3rd Annual GMC Brickyard Invitational hosted at Council Farms and scheduled for 10 September.  There are 11 men's teams and 13 women's teams scheduled to compete. The Women's 5k will start at 5:45 pm, with the men's 8k at 6:30 pm. The course,  located on the corner of GA Hwy 112 and Council McCranie Rd, about 8 miles south of the GMC campus and about two miles south of the Fall-Line Freeway.
