Georgie Military College Primed for Championship Run

The Georgia Military College Cross Country teams have had a great year. They are excited to cap their season off with a great showing at the 2021 NJCAA National Cross Country Championships, hosted by Council Farms on November 13.

Georgia Military College is hosting the NJCAA Cross Country National Championship Division III for the first time. Coach Sherwood commented on this historical event; "To get to compete for a national championship on your home course is special. I am grateful for the support we have received from the GMC Administration and staff as well as the entire Milledgeville community."

The women's team, led by freshmen Jordan Prinner (Citrus Springs, FL) and Tealani Wasson (Kahuku, HI), finished the year ranked number #4 in the country. The team can make history and bring GMC its highest finish at the National Championship. According to Head Coach Rob Sherwood, "This team has been excellent this year. I am excited to see how Jordan and Tealani compete against the best in the country, and with this being our home course, I am expecting a strong race from the entire team." Paige White (McRae, GA) and Madison Nimmons (Lexington, GA) will be running in their second National Championship, and their experience will be valuable to setting up the team for success. Coach Sherwood will also send out Nova Kroll (Pennsylvania, PA), Piper Stephens (Melbourne, FL), and Kimber Moring (Folsom, FL) to complete the GMC lineup.

The Men's team has steadily climbed the ladder all season and entered the National Championship ranked 10th in the country. Coach Sherwood commented," This will be the first race where we have our entire starting lineup so that we will come in under the radar." The men's team, led by Sophomore Daniel Turnipseed, will be running in his second National Championship. Joining him will be Jacob Cain (Brandon, FL), August Curcio (Cumming, GA), Aidan Garcia (Durham, CT), Jacob Reed (Thompson, CT), Christopher Pombo (Brewster, MA), Brandon Williams (Cadwell, GA). "Daniel has taken on a leadership role this year," said coach Sherwood, "He has helped guide this team all year, and I am excited to see how he competes."

The NJCAA DIII National Championship will occur at Council Farms in Milledgeville, GA, on Saturday, November 13. The men's race will begin at 10:00 am, and the women's race at 11:00 am.
