GMC Cross Country Primed for National Championships

GMC Cross Country Primed for National Championships

The GMC Cross Country teams have had a strong showing in 2022 and are looking to close out their season on a high note as they travel to Westfield, MA to compete NJCAA National Championship. Six Bulldogs will represent Georgia Military College at this year's Championships; Sanaa Smith, Rebecca Nicholson, Swarkena Foggy, Jacob Reed, Brandon Williams, and ZJ Hoffmann.

On the men's side, Jacob Reed will lead the way. He has found his stride since recovering from an early season injury and has the pace to compete. Brandon Williams is peaking just at the right time. He had a great race at Regionals and is looking to make to most of his second trip to the National Championship. Freshman ZJ Hoffmann also enters the championships in peak form. He has led the Bulldogs on a few occasions this year, and has the talent to surprise people.

Sanaa Smith has consistently been out in front for the women this year. Her talent and persistence will serve her well on this challenging course. Rebecca Nicholson has shaved almost a minute off her time since the start of the season and is looking for one more strong race. After a 9th place finish at Regionals, Swarkena Foggy is full of confidence and looking forward to the chance to display her talents on the biggest stage in Cross Country.

Coach Rob Sherwood had this to say when asked about the group he is bringing to Nationals, "I am looking forward to the National Championship this year.  As host last year, we had an advantage that we used.  This year we are returning to a familiar site, Stanley Park in Westfield, MA.  The course is very different from the ones that we have already run this season and I feel that those we are bringing will be very competitive."

The NJCAA DIII National Championship will be hosted by Holyoke Community College in Westfield, MA on November 5. The women's race will start at 10:00 am and the Men's race at 11:00 am. The forecast calls for unseasonably warm weather up north, which should benefit our Bulldogs.  We have all the confidence in the world that our Bulldogs will rise to the challenge.
