GMC Cross Country competes in the Brewton-Parker Invitational

The GMC Cross Country teams travelled to Mount Vernon, GA for the Brewton Parker Invitational.  The weather has finally started to cool down in the evening and the GMC runners took full advantage of this.  The Men's 8k came first with a field of seven schools including NCAA DII, NAIA and NJCAA schools.  The GMC Bulldogs were led by Brandon Pluas who finished in 5th place with a time of 29:19.  He was followed closely by Jack Gartman, 29:42, Aidan Rainey 15th place and 31:01, Nathan Gise 19th place and 32:45 and Myron Rodriguez 29th place at 35:29.  The team finished in 2nd place only losing to the host Brewton Parker College runners.  It was a great day with almost all runners clocking a season's best or personal best.
The women's 5k had the second race, and the weather was even better.  The GMC women competed against 8 teams with NCAA DII, NCAA DIII, NAIA and NJCAA schools.  Grace Houghton finished in 2nd place overall with a time of 22:13.  She was followed by Kena Foggy 9th place with 24:19, Katherine Purkis in 11th place, Brynley Everage in 13th place and Savannah Koback in 27th place.  The team finished with a total score of 52, two points ahead of USC-Beaufort, and were the winners of their second race in a row.
Speaking after the race, Coach Rob Sherwood said, "Things went right today.  The weather was great, the course was good, the competition solid.  It was great to watch their improvement so far in the season.   We just want to help them continue to progress with an eye on the Conference Championships in late October and the National Championship in early November."
Both teams will race next Saturday, 30 September at the Berry College Invitational in Rome, GA.
