GMC JC Football Wins the Military Bowl on Military Appreciation Day

The No. 16 ranked GMC Bulldogs went head-to-head with #11 undefeated rival College of DuPage Saturday, winning the Military Bowl 30-19.

The Bulldogs won the game and hoisted the trophy high for the second consecutive season.

Throughout the first quarter, the teams went head-to-head offensively, with GMC led by wide receiver Major Bellamy. Along with Bellamy, key plays in the first quarter were made by teammates Darius Scott, Delvin Webb and Reginald Davenport.

The team kept DuPage's running efforts to a minimum, creating several turnovers and interceptions throughout the game.

By the end of the first quarter, DuPage held a six-point lead over the Bulldogs, 13-7.

Throughout the second quarter, the offense faltered a bit but was able to recover through the play of Bellamy and Canyon Slade

The Bulldogs' defense stifled DuPage in the second quarter, in part through the play of Ramero Rock. Later on in the second Jae'Vion Matthews was able to intercept a DuPage pass and return it to the 20.

The start to the second half was a little slower. After a GMC safety, running back Kendall Cross scored to close the DuPage lead to 19-16 with the extra point kick.

The Bulldogs took the rest of the quarter with major runs and plays made by Jae'Vion Matthews, Kendall Cross, Brandon Davis and Major Bellamy. Through a solid GMC running attack, the Bulldogs' Kendall Cross scored to make the game 23-19.

The Bulldogs worked hard to keep possession throughout the fourth quarter. Then freshman fullback Chris Felton ran the ball in to give the Bulldogs the lead, 30-19 after the extra point kick.

Another GMC interception recovery later in the fourth sealed the game for the Bulldogs and ensured the Military Bowl trophy remains in Milledgeville another season.

The Bulldogs will look to add to their three-game winning streak as they go into Saturday's home game against ASA College (Miami). Kickoff is slated at noon
