GMC Men's Golf Competes well in Alabama

The Georgia Military College (GMC) men's golf team finished 7th  out of 10 teams at the Badger Invitational held at the Robert Trent Jones Magnolia Grove Golf Club in Mobile, Alabama on this past Monday and Tuesday. The challenging course played over 7,100 yards with the tournament field dodging inclement weather over the two days.

The Bulldog men shot a combined 929 (305, 312, 312) over the par-72, 7212-yard course to finish just behind Union University-TN and Alcorn State.  GMC was the only 2 year school that competed in this event with the rest of the schools being made up of NCAA Division 2 and NAIA institutions.

GMC's all freshmen squad was led by Floris Veth, Netherlands, who tied for 4th overall at +4 (74, 72, 74)  with Ashton Denton, Thomasville GA, garnering a top 25 finish by posting scores of 74, 79, 78.

Coach Miller stated, "Overall, we hit the ball well all week, but were not able to capitalize on a solid first round score. This course made you work hard to score if you did not miss in the right spots. Floris Veth was probably the most consistent player in the entire tournament over three rounds. I'm also very proud of the way Chad Fopiano played this week in his first tournament appearance. The experience he gained this week will make our team much better overall."

Georgia Military College will tee it up next in the Ron Marshall Spring Fling at Goose Pond Colony Resort in Alabama on March 16th followed up by them hosting the Fairfield Inn and Suites Intercollegiate at Harbor Club in Greensboro, GA on March 20th and 21st.
