Bulldogs shoot season-low 297, Finish 6th at Ron Marshall Spring Fling

Sophomore Ashton Denton

The Georgia Military College Golf team made the trip up to Lake Guntersville in northeast Alabama last weekend for the Ron Marshall Spring Fling hosted by Rend Lake College at the Goose Pond Colony Lake Course. The Bulldogs shot season low scores in each round (305/302/297) and finished 6th out of 16 teams in a very competitive field. "We had a chance to go under 300 in each round, but were unable to close in rounds 1 and 2," stated Head Coach Josh Miller. "We stressed in our team meetings each night to finish the round strong."

The Dogs responded by improving each round, even in a rain-soaked 3rd round where team scores increased, the Bulldogs broke 300 for the first time all season, led by Sophomore Ashton Denton's 71 and Freshman Trey May's 73. Denton would finish T2 individually only 2 shots out of the lead and May would finish T21 in a field of 90+ players.

"It was great to see the guys bounce back after we didn't play well at all in our last event," Coach Miller said. "The momentum started in our qualifying rounds for this tournament and the momentum traveled with us. We still have a lot of work to do, but I'm very proud of our progress. It really shows how hard we've been working in practice and the consistent scoring is evidence of how far we've come. This team is close to going very low and playing great golf."
