GMC Men's Cross Country breaks school record at SCAD - Atlanta Cross County Invitational

Newnan, GA

The Georgia Military College Cross Country team ran on Friday 30, September at the SCAD-Atlanta Cross Country Invitational in Newnan, GA.  Due to various schedule conflicts the men's team was unable to field a five runners to field a team. Despite this, the great weather led to quite a few GMC records falling.

The men's team had four runners.  Sophomore twins, John and Adam Dougherty (Gainesville, GA) led the way for GMC again.  John ran a 28.16.9 personal best for the 8k and finished in 11th place.  Adam finished one place behind him with a personal best of 28:24.5.  Freshman Austin Cook (Cochran, GA) ran his best race of the season and finished in 16th place with a time of 29:33.1.  This is the first time in recent history that the GMC men's team has had three runners break the 30 min mark in the same race.  With this great run, Cook joined the Dougherty brothers as qualifiers for the NJCAA Division III National Championships in Canandaigua, NY hosted by Finger Lakes Community College in early November.  The fourth GMC runner Amos Prestwood (Eatonton, GA) ran a personal best of 35:32.1 and finished in 45th place.

The team will run in the final tune-up for their Conference Championships on 14 October at Augusta University.
