Rob Sherwood became the Head Coach of the Men's and Women's Cross Country teams in 2015.

In his time at the helm, the Cross Country teams have grown into a perennial power in the region. The teams have won three NJCAA Region 17 Championships and have four runner-up finishes. In 2019, Coach Sherwood delivered the Region 17 sweep winning both Men's and Women's Championships and earning Coach of the Year honors.  Sherwood has also groomed runners to compete at the National level with 18 runners qualifying for Nationals and twice having teams place in the top 10.

Sherwood's student-athletes are also dedicated in the classroom as both teams have been named Scholar All-Americans on a nearly annual basis, and they are mainstays of the GMC Dean's List and Presidents List Honor Rolls.

As History Professor at GMC, Coach Sherwood's passion for Cross Country is evident by his family's participation in the sport. His passion has led to him earning the NJCAA Region 17 Coach of the Year three times, which also helps foster a family atmosphere that he believes is critical to success.
