GMC JC Rifle Teams Qualify for Nationals

Saturday, at The Citadel in Charleston, SC the Georgia Military College Rifle Team qualified for the fifth consecutive year to represent GMC at the National Rifle Association Intercollegiate Rifle Championships at Ft Benning, GA.  The team shot extremely well and was led by freshman, Cadet Emily Stefurak with an aggregate score of 1083.  She started off strong this weekend shooting a 528 in small bore and picked up steam later in the morning when she shot a super score of 555 in air rifle.  She was followed close behind by sophomore teammate commuter student, Lilianna Reyes with an aggregate score of 1080.  Lilianna shot a solid 518 in small bore but could not surpass Cadet Stefurak's strong start with her great shooting in air rifle with a 562.  Our third team member was freshmen Cadet Tristian Swann shooting an aggregate score of 1065.  He shot a superb 523 in small bore followed by his solid score of 542 in air rifle.  He was followed by two freshmen, Cadet Jeffery Glass and Ray Parker.  Jeffery had an aggregate score of 1000 shooting a 480 in small bore and a 520 in air rifle.  Cadet Ray Parker shot an aggregate score of 992 with a 479 in small bore and a 513 in air rifle.  The team scored a fantastic score in small bore with a 2049 and an incredible score of 2179 for an outstanding aggregate score of 4228 for the Bulldog Shooting Team.  The team shoots three positions in small bore; kneeling, prone, and standing.  These positions in small bore are required by all shooters to demonstrate their capability in each of these positions which is governed under the NRA rules.

These bulldog team members shot their hearts out among other rifle teams in the southeast such as North Carolina State.  North Carolina State sports a member of the United States Olympic team on their squad who is a senior this year and shot a 590 in air rifle in 60 shots.  However, Lauren Phillips, also of North Carolina State, shot an unbelievable 592.  Other teams GMC shot against include the University of North Georgia, The Citadel, and Clemson University which are all NCAA schools that have superb shooting programs that allow GMC to compete with them.  These teams permit us to shoot in competitions which provides our team with tremendous opportunity to shoot against more experienced shooters.   This experience allows the GMC rifle team members to hone their shooting skills in an exceptional manner in preparation for the NRA Intercollegiate Club Championships.  This NRA Sectional competition included several individual shooters as well from various locations around the southeast.

GMC will be on the road again next weekend in Statesboro, GA shooting against the Georgia Southern Eagles' Rifle Team and the University of North Georgia Night Hawks in the Georgia State Championships.
