Georgia Southern University hosted parent weekend with a rifle match with The University of Alabama/ Birmingham and Georgia Military College.  There were a total of sixteen shooters shooting NCAA/USA Shooting Rules on the sixteen rifle lanes in The Shooting Sports Education Center located on campus.  While the rifle competition was taking place, on the other side of the building was an archery championship competition. The SSEC Range Master, Matt Horst, called the shooters to the line with an introduction of the shooters names, college and home towns.  The shooters then stood for the National Anthem and then the  competition began.

Shooting for Georgia Military College in small bore, consisting of twenty shots each in kneeling, prone and standing were Cadet Aaron Hill shooting a 459 in small bore, followed by  Captain of the team, Cadet Jeffrey Glass with a 452, Cadet Matthew Futch with a 383 and Cadet Richard Thornley with a 383.  Cadet Brick Nelson was the fifth shooter with a 377. The total four man score was 1677.

In air rifle Cadet Jeffrey Glass was top shooter for GMC with a 515, Cadet Aaron Hill shot a 490, Cadet Richard Thornley a 458 and Cadet Brick Nelson 455.  Cadet Matthew Futch was the fifth shooter with a 449.  Their total four man score was 1918.  The two score combined were 3595.

Rosemary Kramer of Georgia Southern was high shooter in the match with a 568 in small bore and a 587 in air rifle.  The GS team scored a total of 4558 to win the match followed by The University of Alabama/Birmingham with a 4489 to GMC's 3595.

"Three of the GMC shooters are in their first year of competitive shooting and I was very impressed with the determination they displayed at the match knowing that every point would count for the GMC team", said Mary Ellen Eaton.   "We shot against two NCAA college teams who are in the Southern Conference. Most of the other shooters have been shooting for three, four years in high school before they attend college.  GMC's team had a fantastic performance against the many experienced shooters", stated Head Coach Mary Ellen Eaton.
