GMC JC Softball Headed South for the weekend

After a conference sweep of East Georgia this past Thursday, March 2nd,  the GMC JC Softball
(20-7) team took to the road for their last Florida swing of the season. Saturday they played in Gainesville, FL where they took on Tallahassee Community College and Santa Fe College. Sunday they traveled to Jacksonville, Florida for a double header against Florida State College.

Game #1 vs Tallahassee Community College

After the 4 hour bus ride the 'Dogs started a little sluggish, falling behind 3-0 early. As has been their style for the year, they did not quit but fought back in the 6th & 7th inning to tie the game at 3. Unfortunately TCC scored in the bottom of the 7th to get the win at 4-3. Madason Messer took a hard fought loss in the circle. Offensive highlights were: Jordan Crews 2-4/ Ansley Wilbanks 2-4, 1SB/ Danielle Downs 2-3/ Carly Rigsbee 1-4, a 2 run home run in the 6th.

Game #2 vs Santa Fe

By the start of the 2nd game the Bulldogs were over their bus lethargy and cranked out 3 runs in the top of the first. That was all that Danielle Downs would need as she shut out the Saints 9-0 giving up only 6 hits. Kiley Rediger led the offense with 3 hits and 3 RBI. Brittany Lowe went 2-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Rigsbee also contributed 2 hits. Seven of the 9 starters scored a run.

Game #1 vs FSC Jacksonville

In a see saw game to start the day the Bulldogs and Blue Waves traded runs for most of the game with FSC ahead going into the top of the 7th by a score of 6-4. GMC proceeded to score 3 runs in the top of the 7th. Katy Stamey led off the inning with an infield single, Wilbanks followed with a double to left knocking in Stamey. Downs then cranked another double scoring Wilbanks. Following a ground out Crews singled in Jenni McDaniel who was running for Downs. Madason Messer the shut down the FSC team to get the win. While nobody collected more than 1 hit in the game they were timely hits either initiating innings or knocking in runs.

Game #2 vs FSC Jacksonville

The Dogs came out flat in game 2 getting only 7 hits and not putting them back to back. Final score FSC Jacksonville 6 – GMC 2. Crews went 3-4 and Downs went 2-4. Mallory Parson took her first loss of the year in the circle.

The Bulldogs are right back at it Tuesday facing Andrew College in GCAA matchup in Cuthbert, Ga.

"We played 8 games in 6 days, 4 conference and 4 non-conference and spent about 16 hours on buses. It was a long week. We are disappointed in going 4-4 over the week but we know the tough schedule will help come tournament time." says Head Coach Ashley Bunn.
