GMC Softball climbs two spots to #17

The GMC Bulldog Softball team is ready for a home stand! After playing 29 games in 38 days with 22 of them being on the road, 14 of the next 16 will be played in the friendly confines of Couch Field. On a day when the Bulldogs moved to #17 in the NJCAA rankings, they travelled to Cuthbert, GA to take on the Andrew College Tigers. Once again after a long bus ride the Dogs came out a little flat but were still able to come away with 2 victories running their overall record to 22-7.

Game 1

Madason Messer picked up win number 9 on the season as GMC took game 1 by the score of 5-2. Messer allowed only 7 hits and struck out 5 in the contest. Offensively the dogs were led by Danielle Downs who went 3-3 with 2 RBI. Ansley Wilbanks contributed 2 hits and 2 runs scored and Mallory Parson scored 2 runs as well. The Dogs made the most of only 8 hits to win the game.

Game 2

Game 2 was a low scoring affair that went to extra innings. GMC took a 3-1 lead going into the bottom of the 6th but a walk and a 2 run homer tied the game at 3. When neither team scored in the 7th the tie breaker was enforced in the 8th. Wilbanks started the inning on second base and was immediately singled home by Downs but that was all the runs GMC would get. Andrew started with a runner on second in the bottom of the 8th but that is where she stayed as the Bulldog defense shut the Tigers down and won the game 4-3. Danielle Downs was the winning pitcher collecting her 9th win of the season. She also went 2-4 at the plate. Kiley Rediger had a big game going 2-3 with 2 RBI and 2 doubles. Wilbanks also went 2-4 at the plate.

The Dogs get a couple of days of rest before ABAC comes to town this Saturday, March 11th. Game times are 1:00 & 3:00. The team would love to see you there showing your support.
