GMC Softball Maintains Hold on First Place

The #22 NJCAA Division I ranked and two time defending GCAA Conference Champions GMC JC Softball team maintains it's first place position in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association conference by picking up two wins against Andrew College yesterday at Couch Field.  The Bulldogs moved their record to 22-7 with a 8-3 and a 9-7 win in the doubleheader versus the conference foe.

In game 1, the Georgia Military College Bulldogs clinched the lead in fifth inning and never looked back to defeat Andrew College. After being down 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, Carly Rigsbee homered on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs and creating the breathing room that GMC needed to finish off Andrew College.

GMC scored four runs in the sixth inning as the offensive onslaught started on an error on a ball put in play by Lindsey South and Kaedy Borst, followed by a single from Natalie Johnson. Sarah Middleton got the start for the Bulldogs and went seven innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out five in picking up another win. Carly Rigsbee, Mackensie Poynter, Kaedy Borst, Natalie Johnson, and Lauren King all had one hit to lead the Bulldogs to a game one victory.

In game 2 the Georgia Military College Bulldogs held off a late rally by Andrew College as their 7-Run lead was nearly erased.

Despite seeing its seven-run lead whittled down by the end, the GMC Bulldogs still held off Andrew College for a 9-7 victory. Andrew College scored five runs in the failed comeback on a stolen base, an error, a groundout by Smith, and a double by Weaver. Andrew College scored five runs in the fifth inning with Sheffield, Heimback, Smith, and Weaver all contributed in the big inning with RBI's for Andrew College.

GMC got things started in the second inning when they scored two runs off a homerun by Brittany Lowe.  GMC then put up four runs in the third inning with most of the offense in the inning coming from a home run by Cathleen Nugue and a fielder's choice by Natalie Johnson.  Logan led things off on the hill for Andrew College but she only lasted two innings, allowing three hits and two runs while walking zero. The Bulldogs tallied two home runs in game two as Cathleen Nugue had a four bagger in the third inning Brittany Lowe went for the long ball in the second inning.  They had 11 hits in the game with 7 different players collecting hits and contributing to the win.

The Bulldogs will have a couple of days of practice and then will head to ABAC for another conference twin bill on Friday, March 16th when they are scheduled for a 3pm first pitch.
