GMC Women's Soccer Makes History

The GMC Women's Soccer Team,(8-10), defeated #2 ABAC Fillies to make it the Conference Finals in the Region 17 Tournament and play Darton State. 

 

On Friday night the women's soccer team traveled to Darton State to take on the #2 seed ABAC. The Bulldogs were down 2-0 at half time to the Fillies. In the second half the Bulldogs started finding their ground and was able to find the back of the net with just 25 minutes left in play. Haley Elliott received a pass from Karen Rodriguez and was able to shot right over the goalie's head. Just 5 minutes later, Marlique Asson shot from about 25 yards out to score a beautiful goal. She was not done just yet, just minutes later she was able to break free from the defenders and find the back of the net giving the Bulldogs the lead for the first time, 3-2. With a few minutes left in the game Jasmine Musick was able to seal the deal with a victory with a goal making it 4-2 and taking us to the finals against Darton. This is the first time in school history the GMC Women's Soccer Team has made it to the finals of this tournament!

 

On Saturday, the Bulldogs prepared to play a tough Darton State College. They ending up falling short and becoming the runner up in Region 17. Their hard work did not go unnoticed. Coach Morgan stated "we definitely had our up and downs this season but our team goal was to make it to the conference final." She said, "I am very proud how far they came this season."
